Family Law | Custody | Divorce

Many domestic matters require legal advice or representation for resolution.

Family law deals with a wide spectrum of legal categories, with divorce being the most frequently litigated area in family law. Divorce has touched the lives of countless Americans, and at the Watson Law Firm, P.A. we have represented clients in numerous family law matters over the years. Some of the areas in which we have devoted much of our time and efforts toward assisting families include the following:

  • Divorce
  • Child Custody
  • Child Support
  • Visitation
  • Adoption
  • Guardianship
  • Domestic Violence Protection
  • Springdale Divorce Lawyers
  • Separate Maintenance
  • Legal Separation
  • Custody
  • Mediation
  • Juvenile matters
  • Paternity
  • Visitation
  • Washington County Child Custody Attorneys
  • Name Changes
While these family law areas have been our predominant areas of focus, our attorneys also assist families with other domestic issues that arise less frequently, but also require legal counsel, such as pre-nuptial agreements and alimony.

Most divorces ultimately are uncontested, with one party waiving grounds to divorce and consenting to the decree. However, some are contested and grounds must be proven. Grounds in Arkansas are impotency, felony conviction, habitual drunkenness for one year, or other general indignities (e.g., rudeness, hatefulness, or contempt). Our attorneys will sit down with you and review your issues to determine the best approach for divorce, tailored to your situation.

Areas of one's life involving divorce, child custody, child support and even adoption have a profound influence and long-lasting effect on the family's future. Seeking competent legal assistance is vital to achieving a favorable outcome.

We welcome the opportunity to be of service. To arrange a consultation to discuss your legal concerns involving family law, please send an email through our website or phone our office at (479) 750-7717.

Business Law

When starting a business, forming a company, or simply carrying on with daily operations, situations come into play, such as judgments, liens, writs, or collections that require legal advice, representation, and sometimes litigation.

At the Watson Law Firm, P.A., we assist clients with company formation by helping them select the type of company that best suits their business needs, whether an S corporation, C corporation, limited liability company (LLC) or some other form of company. In establishing your corporation or limited liability company (LLC), we will draw up your articles of incorporation or organization, minutes, bylaws, operating agreement, banking resolution, and stock certificates. Depending on the sort of business a client is running, different company structures may offer profit, tax, and operational advantages.

If contracts are needed in conducting business, we offer assistance in drafting contracts that meet legal requirements and are free of ambiguity. We also assist clients in buying or selling a business through careful review of purchase and sale agreements and other necessary legal documents related to the business transaction.

When business disputes arise, we assist clients through legal advice, negotiated settlements, and litigation. Our extensive knowledge of business comes from over two decades of legal experience where we have focused on business concerns and achieved successful results for our clients.

Criminal Law

Unlike personal injury cases, which are civil lawsuits brought by one individual against another to recover damages and compensation, criminal cases are brought by local authorities, the police, the state or federal government for activities in violation of criminal laws.

Crimes vary from lesser charges, such as misdemeanors, to felonies, which are more serious crimes. Both felonies and misdemeanors are prosecuted in state and federal courts, depending on which court has jurisdiction over the type of alleged offense.

At the Watson Law Firm, P.A., our attorneys represent individuals who find themselves on the wrong side of the law under allegation of criminal charges for both misdemeanors and felonies. While we represent clients in any type of felony or misdemeanor, some criminal charges are more common and include the following:
  • DUI/DWI
  • Drug crimes
  • Juvenile crimes
  • Traffic violations
  • Car wrecks
  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Careless Driving
  • Possession
  • Speeding and other minor violations
  • Reckless Driving
  • Prohibited Driving
  • License Suspension
  • Failure to Appear
  • Non-Payment of Fines or Court Costs
If you have been pulled over for a DUI (Driving Under the Influence) or DWI (Driving While Intoxicated), it is vital to contact an experienced DUI/DWI lawyer as soon as possible. You may face jail, fines, license suspension and other penalties, and a fourth DUI/DWI offense in Arkansas increases from a misdemeanor to a felony, with a one- to six-year sentence in the penitentiary. Our attorneys are knowledgeable in DUI/DWI laws and can make a considerable difference in the outcome of a case, in some cases achieving reduced sentencing or dismissal.

Personal Injury

Personal Injury Law is a complex area of the legal system that addresses personal injury injustice. When a person has been injured through the fault of another in situations involving negligence or recklessness, there may be grounds for a personal injury claim. A personal injury lawsuit is designed to assist individuals to recover from pain and suffering, receive compensation to deal with the financial stress of medical bills and loss of income.

We know when to settle and when to take a case to trial in order to obtain the maximum compensation entitled under the law. Always putting our clients' best interests first, we aggressively litigate toward the most favorable outcome.

While the scope of personal injury law is extensive, our focus during the years has been on representing the following types of personal injury cases:

  • Automobile Accidents
  • Trucking Accidents
  • Slip-and-Fall
  • Wrongful Death
  • Car wrecks
  • Motor vehicle accidents
We offer a free case evaluation for personal injury claims and fees are determined on a contingency fee basis, which means you do not have to pay anything upfront and attorney fees are taken as a percentage when we win your case.

Social Security and Disability

We at Watson Law Firm, P.A. will assist you in filing all the appropriate forms required by the Social Security Administration once you have been denied. Did you know that about 60% of all claims are denied the first time through the system? If your claim is denied, you have 60 days to request a reconsideration. This appeal is handled by the Disability Determination Services, or DDS. We will aid you in filling out the correct forms and collect your medical records.

If the request for reconsideration is denied, then you have 60 days to file a hearing before an administrative law judge. It often takes 12 to 14 months from the date you request your hearing to receive a hearing date. This time frame depends on the backlog of claims at the Social Security office. We will continue to gather your medical records and aid you in filling out the additional paperwork.

We know that filing for Social Security Disability or Supplemental Security Income benefits can be a long, frustrating, and overwhelming process. With over 30 years experience, we can be a great asset to you along the way.

Estate Planning

Estate planning is often a time-consuming and complex issue to undertake, but one of the most important. Estate planning involves the process of arranging for the disposal and/or anticipation of an estate. The purpose of estate planning is to rid a person(s) of the uncertainties of their property, both real and personal, once they are deceased.

Some examples of legal instruments for estate planning are as follows:

  • Healthcare Proxy - Designates another person to make healthcare decisions in case a person is rendered incapable of making his/her wishes known.

  • Living Will - Specifies what type of medical treatments are desired.

  • Last Will and Testament - States what will happen to an individual's personal property upon their death.

  • Power of Attorney - Gives authority for another person to act on the behalf of another in legal, business or personal issues.

  • Revocable Trust - A trust that can be altered or terminated during the "grantor's" lifetime.

  • Beneficiary Deed - Deed used to state who receives real property of the deceased owner.
Personalized attention and easy accessibility
are the hallmark of our practice.
